Parent Teacher’s Organization (PTO)
We are excited that the PTO has officially started. We know what a vital and instrumental part that parents play in the educational role of their children. So, we are happy that the organization has begun. We have had two very productive and successful meetings, but we need more parents to become involved. Our goal is to make a difference and support the school and staff. This can only be done with parental support so we are encouraging more parents to join us.
The next PTO meeting is to be announced.

Grandparent’s Day was a day to show appreciation to those grandparents that are active in their students’ personal lives and education. Morning assembly was student lead and dedicated to the grandparents with a hot breakfast served afterwards. Teachers/students were set up for grandparents to come into the classroom to do a memorable project with their grandchildren. At dismissal time, grandparents were given a certificate of appreciation.
Donuts with Dads was a day when dads were given a big “Thank You” for being active in their son(s) and/or daughter(s) lives during their tenure at Starr Detroit Academy. morning assembly was dedicated to all dads. Immediately after the assembly, dads transitioned to the cafeteria for coffee and donuts with a short presentation.
Muffins with Moms. Moms were honored at an afternoon assembly and invited to have a muffin with their scholar(s) in the classroom. This gave them the opportunity to feel welcomed at Starr with the goal to make them comfortable enough to come back and volunteer.
Daddy/Daughter Dance was a night of fun for our dads and daughters. More than 300 parents and daughters, dressed up for the occasion from grades Kindergarten through 7th. Dads were able to enjoy a nice sit down chat while eating some sumptuous food with their daughters. They danced and were able to take pictures together to savor the memories of their daughters in their youth here at Starr Detroit Academy.
